The University, since its establishment in 1969 vide Kashmir And Jammu Universities Act, 1969 following the bifurcation of the erstwhile university of Jammu and Kashmir has been consistently moving ahead in academic and co-curricular activities. It has grown and developed as one of India’s prestigious universities with its commitment and focus on its core functions of teaching, research, publication, examination and extension.

The University offers around seventy postgraduate and undergraduate courses in different faculties. Our research programmes range across many disciplines, imparting Ph.D. in 37 and M.Phil. in 26 disciplines. The University has seven functional campuses located at Bhaderwah, Kathua, Reasi, Ramnagar, Udhampur, Kishtwar and Poonch. These campuses offer various programmes to meet the demand and aspirations of the people living in these areas.

The hallmark of any academic excellence is the highest standards of teaching, research and an environment and culture conducive to learning. It is heartening to inform you that the University of Jammu is making rapid strides in all areas of its functioning. We have made several new beginnings and taken many important initiatives. We have redesigned our academic programmes under Choice based Credit system, semester system and have undertaken other examinations and administrative reforms. We endeavour to introduce new job oriented programmes that are in sync with emerging national and global trends as well as relevant to the regional and local needs. Providing world class facilities, encouraging sports and extracurricular activities for the holistic development of the students is something that we encourage at the University of Jammu.

As an institution of higher education, we understand our responsibility of increasing access, promoting equity and ensuring quality and excellence. While we realize that there are no shortcuts to excellence, however, University of Jammu assures you that quality is the guiding principle and cornerstone of the functioning of all key performance areas of the University. Reflecting the University of Jammu’s growing reputation, We are glad to inform you that the University has recently been awarded 51st rank in the National Institutional Ranking Framework conducted by Ministry of Human Resource Development.

The achievements of the University in the area of research, especially in High-Energy Physics, Glaciology and Bio-Technology are highly commendable. The University is involved in world class research through ‘A Large Ion Collider Experiment’ (ALICE) collaboration and is a part of the Indian team involved at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) Experiment at the World Laboratory ‘European Council for Nuclear Research’ (CERN), Geneva. Further, it has also set up the National Apple Germplasm Repository at the Bhaderwah Campus.
