Workshop on the theme: “Rural Craft of Jammu: Cultural Hub for Livelihood”.

Lectures/ Interactive Sessions


1. 2009: Interactive session on “Temple Architectural styles of Western Himalayas”. (23rdJanuary 2009). Spokes Person: Dr. Ashok Jerath

2. 2008: Lecture on ‘Sheikh-ul-Alam: His Personality and Poetry’ by Prof. Hamidi Kashmiri, former Vice-Chancellor of Kashmir was organized on 18th March, 2008.


Workshops & Exhibitions


1. 2009: Two day workshop on the theme ‘Heritage and Science’ (23rd -24th November 2009) on the occasion of “World Heritage Week” was organized in collaboration with Department of Tourism, Govt. of J&K and India- ICOMOS ( International Council on Monuments and Sites)

2. 2008: An exhibition on Costumes of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh region on the occasion of the first anniversary of General Zorawar Singh Auditorium was organized on 28th March, 2008.

3. 2007: An exhibition from 23rd to 30th November, 2007 on the Life of Sheikh Noor-ud-din Noorani was put up in connection with the World Heritage Week.

4. 2007: A quiz competition on “Heritage of Jammu Region” was organized on 23rd November, 2007. Various schools from Jammu and Udhampur participated in the competition.

5. 2006: The museum organized a one day workshop on “Disaster Management in Museums and Heritage Institutions” on 9th December, 2006. The activity consisted of lecture cum demonstration by specialists on the subject. An interactive session with students was also organized.


Achievements


a. Consultancy provided by the Center to the following:

    1. 2008:Mubarak Mandi Jammu Heritage Society

          i. Research on Mubarak Mandi Palace complex

         ii. Preparation of text panels of various buildings of Mubarak Mandi Palace Complex

        iii. Building wise Documentation of the Mubarak Mandi Palace Complex

        iv. Project report on Upgradation of Dogra Art Museum

         v. Project report for Setting up of the Museum in the complex.

   2. 2009: On the request of ‘Prince Claus Fund for Culture and Development’, Amsterdam, Netherlands, expert advice on the proposal  submitted by INTACH – Jammu and Kashmir Chapter on ‘Thag Baba Shrine’ located on the historic river front of Jehlum, Kashmir was given. For this a detailed report was submitted.

   3. 2009: Being a member of ‘Artefacts Purchase Committee of Dogra Art Museum Govt. of Jammu and Kashmir’ has give advice on the purchase of artifacts from time to time.
