Special Assistance Programme (SAP) :-
The University Grants Commission has approved
the Special Assistance Programme at the level of DRS
for duration of 5 years with the following thrust area(S)
for research and teaching.
Thrust area (s) identified: Politics
of Jammu & Kashmir.
The objectives set forth for the current phase are as
indicated below:
The department is supposed to prepare a proper framework
of state politics of Jammu & Kashmir in the context
of Indian Political system and find out the identity
problem. The problem of the autonomy of the state
needs to be examined and studied in a holistic view
in national perspective. The Constitutional crisis
of Jammu & Kashmir needs to be examined objectively
within the Indian constitutional framework. The problem
of nation building in Jammu & Kashmir demands
a sharply focussed research.
The Co-ordinator of the programme for the present
phase of the programme will be Prof. Rekha
Chowdhary.
The Co-ordinator may continue till the end of the
present phase of the programme or till her superannuation
whichever is earlier as per revised guidelines.
The financial assistance approved for implementing
the present phase at the level of DRS for duration
of 5 years 01-04-2002 to 31-03-2007 is as indicated
below:

Highlight of SAP Activities :-
Major Survey conducted on Assembly Election 2002
covering all 87 Constituencies. Survey was organised
in collaboration with premier Institute CSDS, Delhi.
Dr.Rekha Chowdhary and Dr.Yogendra Yadav were Co-ordinators
of Survey. A brief report of Survey was published
in Indian Express dated 09th October 2002.
Research collaboration with University of Kashmir.
Documentation Centre on Jammu & Kashmir has
been initiated. It provides basic services of Articles/Analysis
on J&K on months basis, basic documents on J&K.
