An International Workshop on Physics and Analysis of Hot and Dense Matter February 12-February 16,2008 |
---|

ROOT (set of software tools for data processing) is currently widely used in particle and nuclear physics, notably in all major High Energy Physics labs around the world (CERN, FERMILAB, SLAC, DESY, GSI). The ROOT system and its extended capabilities have now been interfaced with the emerging Grid middleware in general and in particular with the ALICE developed middleware system. The main workshop topics are use of ROOT as a general framework, to bring common ideas and solutions to meet the offline Computing needs of Large experiment at LHC at CERN, Geneva and other new facilities that are coming up throughout the world (like FAIR at GSI, Germany). The workshop aims at training the PhD students/faculty to prepare for the full dress rehearsals which will be end-to-end tests of all the components required to analyze the data using the GRID computing before the actual data comes. The workshop would also aim at discussing the latest physics predictions and future predictions for the Hot and dense matter. This hands-on workshop is designed to provide the students and academic researchers with the skills and knowledge of advanced computing and analysis techniques in Physics Research. It will also provide extensive exposure to Research Scholars and the faculty members to the field of Quark Gluon Plasma and related experimental and theoretical aspects. The first day of the workshop would be dedicated to the physics of Compressed Baryonic Matter.
The Workshop will be held from Feb 12 to Feb 16 , 2008 at the Department of Physics , University of Jammu,Jammu. The University of Jammu is located in the City of Temples - Jammu Tawi. It has two campuses - New Campus at Bahu Wali Rakh, and another small old campus at Canal Road.. Presently, in old campus, only residential accommodation for teaching, non-teaching staff and a boys hostel are located. The Department of Physics is located at the New Campus. A more detailed map of the area can be seen here
Students, faculty attending the workshop will lodge in the University Guest House / J & K Sate Govt. Circuit House. Students will share double rooms with bathroom. The lecture hall and the rooms for the Practical sessions is situated in the Department of Physics, University of Jammu, which will be equipped with computing and electronic communication facilities.
Participants should arrive in Jammu for registration during the afternoon or evening of Monday, February 11, 2008. The workshop will end on the evening of Saturday, February 16, 2008 . More and up-to-date information about train/bus schedules etc. can be seen here. How to reach the University of Jammu can be seen here
Total number of participants for this meeting is 50 (Fifty). We request all participants to register for the meeting and give their date and time of arrival and departure and passport details (for foreign nationals) by filling the Registration Form and sending to the workshop secretariat email within 20th December, 2007.There is no workshop fee. |
