Cente for History and Culture of Jammu and Ladakh Regions :-

One important object of the Centre is to work out regional History through out the ages in detail. For that purpose segmentation of the regions with distinct historical and cultural background have to be supposed and their annals narrated after thorough investigations. For instance in Jammu region we have to following segments :

  1. Jasrota-Kathua Belt
  2. Basohli-Udhampur Hills
  3. Bhaderwah-Kishtwar area
  4. Poonch-Rajouri Belt
  5. Akhnoor-Ambaran Belt

Separate cell for oral history is also planned to establish. It involves fieldwork to identify the persons/custodian of folklore, folk ballads and oral traditions and record their statements and contents in tapes or in writting. These records can be analysed and used in compiling segment wise accounts or published separately.

The collection of Artefacts, old implements and objects of cultural value required a room or gallery where these should be stored/exhibited for view of study. Hence the establishment of Cultural gallery is an important adjunct of the Centre.

Seminars and Conferences are a vital part of the activities of the Centre. They not only provide opportunities to highlight the activities and working of the institution but impart confidence to its administrators and also offer guidance and expert advice for the improvement of the Centre. It is therefore necessary the Periodical Seminars, Conferences, Extension Lectures are on the schedule of the Centre. Visit of teachers and students of this Department to historical places also adds life to the activity of the Centre.

These are also on the schedule of the Centre. These not only publicise achievement of the Centre but also provide incentive to the Research scholars through this media the findings and conclusions about the history, culture and art of these regions reach the elites and readers interested in this field.
