organized 2nd National Seminar on Future of Libraries:
Trends, Issues and Challenges NASOFOL 2017 on February
10-11, 2017 which was inaugurated by the Governor N.N.
Vohra. Prof. R.D. Sharma, Vice Chancellor University
of Jammu, Prof. P.B. Mangla, Former Member National
Knowledge Commission, Prof. V.K. Malhotra, Member
Secretary, ICSSR, Dr. Jagdish Arora, Director
INFLIBNET spoke about the importance of libraries and
issues and challenges before it. The welcome address
was given by Prof. Sangita Gupta, Organizing Secretary
of the Seminar and vote of thanks was given by Prof.
Rajender Gupta, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences.

Organized Two

Department
organized Alumni meet on 29th of November, 2016. Over
100 alumni attended the meet and shared their views on
professional life.

Training course
on Latest Techniques of Library and Information
Science, e-Granthalaya and Internet was conducted by
the Department of Library & Information Science,
University of Jammu sponsored by Directorate of
Libraries and Research, Government of J&K from 26th
July 2016 to 5th August2016.

National
Librarians’ Day is celebrated in the Department of
Library & Information Science, University of Jammu
every year in the month of August to mark the birth
anniversary of S.R. Ranganathan, Father of Library
Science in India.

Teacher’s Day is
also celebrated in the Department of Library &
Information Science, University of Jammu on 5th of
September every year.

The Department
has introduced the orientation program for freshers
under which they visit Dhanvantri Library and are made
aware of functioning of various sections of the
library.

for Sustenance of Library and Information Centers in
Digital Era” on 01-02 March, 2012 .

Training Programme, in collaboration with Academic Staff
College University of Jammu at Department of Library and
Information Science, University of Jammu in 2009The
department is connected with Departmental Alumni and
current pass out students through Social Media (WhatsApp,
Blog and Facebook).
Department is maintaining a “DLIS JU Alumni” WhatsApp
group where in 199 alumni are connected to the
department. The group members are informed regarding the
departmental activities and other activities in the
field of Library Science at local, national and
international level.
‘‘DLIS JU Alumni”
WhatsApp Group is used for sharing information quickly
among group members.
The Department is maintaining a Departmental Blog (http://www.dlisjammu.blogspot.com)
for sharing information regarding departmental
activities. Department is also providing Job related
information for helping the students in their
recruitment through social media (Departmental Blog &
WhatsApp Group).
The Department is also maintaining a ‘Ph.D students DLIS,
JU’ WhatsApp Group for sharing information quickly among
Phd Scholars.
The Department is also maintaining a ‘DLIS, University
of Jammu Alumni’ Facebook Group for sharing information
UGC visiting Faculty are being invited every year since
2010-11 for minimum One week and maximum 3months
Since 2010-11 one year Gap in between B.Lib.I.Sc and
M.Lib.I.Sc. has been removed.
Students of M.Lib.I,Sc. are provided with one month
Internship since 2013-14.

IT lab is occupied with 14 computers with internet
connectivity. All computers are connected with Online
UPS.

Induction Programme is organized every year before the
commencement of new Session.
Our Library is the first departmental library who has
maintained bibliographic database of its collection
using Libsyssoftware.
Students’
Placement
Our students
are being placed in various organisations such as
University of Jammu, SKUAST Library, Jammu, various
College Libraries across the region, Jammu High Court
Library, Hari Palace Library (Amar Mahal Palace
Library), Tourism & Cultural Deptt., Health Deptt.,
Public Libraries of State, J&K Govt. and various Govt.
Deptt., etc.
They are also working in IIM, Ahmadabad; National
Informatics Centre, New Delhi,
KendriyaVidyalyaSangathan in J&K, Kerala, Delhi, etc.
