Many students of the department are
occupying important administrative and academic positions
within and outside the J&K State.
Switching over to the new programme of Master's Degree
Level, as already detailed.
The Department had the distinction to organize the
Millennium Conference of the Indian
Economic Association in December 2000 to January
2001, wherein 800 delegates from all parts of the
country and outside the country had participated in
the 3 day event. This conference proceed a boon research
scholars and the students got an opportunity to listen
to and interact with a galaxy of renowned economists
and policy planners of the country. The Conference
brought the Department at the rational scene and helped
the faculty and research scholars to interact with
researchers of some of the leading universities of
the country.
The Department had the privilege to organize a 3 day
national level Seminar on 'Poverty and Development
Alternatives during 1999-2000, in which some of the
leading economists of the country like Dr. Manmohan
Singh, Prof. V. Pandit and Prof. D. N. Rao participated.
The Department was a host to the Final Project Review
Workshop-V of Environmental Economics Research Committee
(EERC) funded by Ministry of Environment and Forests
(MOEF) and World Bank aided 'Environmental Management
Capacity Building Technical Assistance Project (EMCAB)'
during 15-16 June 2001. In this workshop, the renowned
environmental economists such as Prof. Jyoti Parikh,
Prof. Kirit Parikh, Prof. P. Appasamy, and others
participated. The said workshop immensely enriched
the teachers and the research scholars of the department
in the field of Environmental Economics.
The faculty members of the Department successfully
completed 4 major World Bank Projects and 3 minor
Projects are presently under the process of being
completed.
The various faculty members of the Department have
been interacting with colleagues at national and international
level by participating in Seminars, Conferences and
Symposia etc. and have contributed and published various
research projects.
