Established in Dec. 1998

The School was established in December 1998 with major funding from the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India. The first batch of students was admitted in Aug 1999. Most of the students of this School have gone in for higher studies while few have joined the industry. The students have been selected for Ph.D programs of reputed Research Institutes namely IISc, CCMB, NII, NBRC, etc. The School has developed a well knit course curriculum which helps the students to gain placements in research institutions of International repute. About 80% of the students qualify National tests like NET(UGC-CSIR, ICMR) BET, GATE etc. The School has established a Bioinformatics Centre for which the grants have been provided by the DBT.

The Department has also been selected for FIST grants by the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. A new state of art building for the School of Biotechnology  has been established in the University campus which houses fully developed laboratories, radioactivity facility, In-situ hybridization facility, cell culture facility etc
