IMFA

The Institute of Music and Fine Arts (IMFA) Jammu was established in 1965 by J&K Academy of Art Culture and Languages as a hobby center for Music and Fine Arts. On popular demand IMFA affiliated with the University of Jammu in 1974 to start bachelor degree courses in Music and Fine Arts. Since then, IMFA, has trained 38 batches of Music and Fine Arts Graduates who are serving the society in various capacities as Teachers in colleges, Government and Private Institutions as Artists/Modellers in various Government departments, designers in advertising industry, Art and Music directors in television industry and freelance Artistes/Artists. Our Alumni regularly get admission for higher studies in prestigious Institutes like Sir J.J.School of Arts Mumbai,Shanti Niketan, M.S University Broda, Banaras Hindu University(BHU), I.K.S.V.V. Khairagarh, Delhi college of Art, N.I.D, P.G Deptt. Of Music, Delhi and Punjab Universities. It is also heartening to note that our Graduates have won state and National Awards & Fellowship/Scholarship offered by Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Lalit kala Academy and International Agencies. We at IMFA, Jammu University feel proud to be involved in scared pursuit of handing down the ancient tradition of classical music and exploring new vistas in Visual Arts. The Teaching Faculty of IMFA, apart from disseminating art and Music education, they are also playing an active role in Jammu's civil society by contributing towards aesthetic enrichment of various public Institutions and the environment in general..

Four years bachelor's degree in Performing Arts in the following disciplines :
1) Vocal Classical (Hindustani Music )
2) Sitar Instrumental
3) Violin Instrumental
4) Tabla Instrumental
5) Kathak Dance
(a) One year foundation course in Music viz vocal, sitar, violin, Tabla & Dance.
(b) Three years specialization course in music, Vocal, sitar, violin, Tabla & Dance.
Intake: The number of seats in the first year (foundation) of the B.Mus. Course shall not exceed 10 in each discipline of vocal, sitar, Violin, Tabla & Dance.

Four years bachelor's degree course in Visual Arts in following disciplines:
1)Painting
2) Sculpture
3) Applied Arts
4) Art History & Aesthetics

(a) One year foundation course in Fine Arts.
The foundation course in Visual Arts (Fine Arts) is common to all the subjects of specialization i.e Painting, Sculpture, Applied Art and Art History & Aesthetics.
b) Three years specialization course in Fine Arts
Indian and Western Art History is common to all subjects of specialization viz Painting, Sculpture, Applied Art and Art History & Aesthetics. Theory of Indian & Western Aesthetics is common to the Painting, Sculpture and Art History & Aesthetics. The Theory of Applied Art is only for Applied Art students.
Intake:
a) The number of seats in the first year foundation of the B.V.A Course shall not exceed 40.
b) The number of seats in each discipline of specialization viz Painting, Sculpture , Applied Art, Art History and Aesthetics shall not exceed 10.
