International Resource Cell
Purpose:-
The objective of opening International Resource Cell (IRC)
in University of Jammu is to share knowledge, learning and
experience of international issues and provide a forum and
space where international resources can be accessed,
discussed and disseminated.
Location and timings :-
The international resource cell will be located on the
Ground floor with in the Dhanvantri Library of the
University of Jammu. The IRC will be open for users from
11.00 a.m to 5 p.m, Monday to Saturday. (Closed on Sunday and
public holidays).
Description:-
The IRC is planned as an attractive, lively place, which
will encourage not just reading but debate and discussion.
It will provide access to information and knowledge about
specific themes in an interactive environment using
multimedia. It will stock books,
journals, audio and video
material along with access to online and e-resources through
good Internet connectivity. A dedicated printer will enable
users to print relevant material (at a small charge). A
comfortable reading space allows users to study and to refer
to books and periodicals. A trained IRC team will assist the
users in finding relevant and up- to-date information
through search facilities on databases, online newspapers,
magazines and publications. Posters, book reviews, wall
charts provide the right learning ambience for a vibrant
IRC. Student volunteers will be encouraged to participate in
IRC activities to ensure a vibrant outreach programme.
Target Users:-
Apart from information access to the academic community
(students, researchers and faculty) the IRC will be
available to the civil society (NGOs and community-based
organisation), print and broadcast media persons. Policy and
professional groups will also be invited to visit and use
the IRC resources.
Materials and Services :-
Books on international issues will be available in the IRC
library. The IRC team can actively search online resources
and help users to become part of an international community
of interest by helping them join e-groups, online chats and
discussions. Most material will be available for reference,
but some will be provided on loan for upto one week at a
time. Materials will be procured in consultation with the
users. Out reach activities of the IRC will include
videoconferences, film screenings, competitions, seminars,
panel discussions, book reviews and visits by experts.
IRC Team:-
An IRC Coordinator, one part-time library staff and student
volunteers will manage the IRC. Pairs of students will be
encouraged to volunteer on a fortnightly basis to promote
their participation, engagement and involvement in the IRC
management.
