I did my graduation from Government College for Women, MA Road, Srinagar (University of Kashmir) and post-graduation in Botany from University of Jammu in 1994. I secured first position and was awarded Gold medal and certificate of merit for the same. During my post-graduation I cleared Science Talent Promotion Test conducted by the then J & K’s Department of Science and Technology (now JKST&IC) and received certificate and scholarship for two years. I also qualified NET-JRF conducted jointly by CSIR-UGC in 1995. My research work focused on a rare phenomenon of underground flowering that was widely recognized and doctorate degree conferred in the year 1999. My first appointment was in the higher education department through Public Service Commission and got posted at Government Degree College, Kathua in 2000. After a brief stint of 45-50 days, I got selected as Assistant Professor in the University of Jammu. Since then I am actively involved in teaching and research in Cytogenetics, Biosystematics and Reproductive Biology. Till date, fifteen students have been awarded Ph. D. and twelve M. Phil. under my supervision. Others are in the queue. Most of them are placed in research institutes, university, colleges and higher secondary schools. I have had the privilege of getting funds from leading agencies of Govt. of India like DST, DBT, CSIR, JKST&IC having undertaken 6 projects (5 completed and 1 ongoing). I have published more than 95 papers in reputed national and international journals, 9 book and 3 e- chapters of INFLIBNET, and attended about 70 conferences. I have bagged many awards at different scientific and academic forums. Some important ones include J & K DST’s Young Scientist award (2005), Dr. M.S. Swaminathan Young Botanist Award (2001) and Woman Scientist Gold medal (2012) of Indian Botanical Society. I am the editor as well as reviewer of many national and international journals. Recently I have been nominated as Member of National Academy of Sciences India, Allahabad.
