Dipankar Sengupta is Professor of Economics in the Department of Economics at the University of Jammu. He joined the Department in 2005. He has taught at the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and was a researcher at the Centre de Sciences Humaines de New Delhi. He has also taught at the National Institute of Financial Management, Faridabad where probationers of the various Accounts Services of the Government of India are trained as well as in IIT Jammu. He has delivered lectures in the Academic Staff Colleges of various Universities including JNU, HPU Shimla as well as the University of Jammu.
Professor Sengupta has also served as the Head of the Department of Economics, as an Officer on Special Duty in the Examination Branch, Dean Students Placement, Director of the Poonch Campus and is now currently also serving as the CEO of the University of Jammu Special Purpose Vehicle Foundation, a Section VIII Company that has been set up to promote startups.
He has served as member of the Board of Studies for the School of International Studies, JNU, Shree Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra, Islamic University of Science and Technology, Awanti pora, Central University of Jammu, Jammu and is now on the Board of Studies for Business Economics, University of Delhi. He is also a member of the Governing Society of the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies, Kolkata and autonomous research institute of the Union Ministry of Culture.
Prof Sengupta has edited several books including the volume “Beyond the Transition Period of the WTO” which was in the reading list for the paper on Indian Economy for several universities including the University of Delhi. He has published in the areas of Industrial Organisation and International Political Economy.
Prof Sengupta also writes for the mainstream media including the Indian Express, Mint, Economic Times, Deccan Chronicle and the Open Magazine. He also appears on national and local television channels including on Doordarshan, CNN News 18, Republic TV and on online platforms like The Sunday Club and DefTalks to discuss current issues.
