Rakesh Kumar, Assistant Professor

Zoology

I am Dr. Rakesh Kumar Panjaliya, an Assistant Professor specializing in Human Genetics at the Department of Zoology, University of Jammu. My research is centered on the genetic epidemiology of complex diseases, with a focused expertise in cancer genetics, cardiovascular disorders, and population genomics.

With a strong foundation in molecular cytogenetics and a commitment to understanding the unique genetic landscape of North India, I lead a research group dedicated to identifying genetic risk factors and biomarkers for diseases like breast and prostate cancer. I have successfully secured and executed research grants as a Principal Investigator from esteemed national bodies, including the DST and ICMR.

I am an active contributor to the scientific community, with numerous publications in peer-reviewed international journals and regular presentations at national and international conferences. I am passionate about mentoring the next generation of scientists and advancing our knowledge of human genetics to improve health outcomes.

Doctorate of Philosophy (2008-2011)

My Doctorate of Philosophy in Zoology, with a specialisation in Human Genetics, from the University of Jammu was a significant milestone in my academic journey. The focus of my research was on the “Study of Alu Insertion/Deletion Polymorphism in Different Ethnic Groups of Jammu Region,” a topic of great relevance in the field of genetics.

Master of Philosophy (2006-2008)

Master of Philosophy in Zoology from the University of Jammu with ‘O’ Grade. My research topic was “Alu Insertion/Deletion Polymorphism in Gujjar Populations of Jammu Region.”

CSIR-NET-JRF (2007)

Qualified CSIR-NET-JRF in Life Sciences for eligibility for lecturership and Fellowship for research.
