J P Singh Joorel, Professor
Statistics


Prof J P Singh Joorel did his Master of Statistics (1985) and Ph D degree (1989) from the Institute of Social Sciences, Agra University, Agra and obtained his M Phil degree (1986) from Meerut University, Meerut. He has completed “Leadership for Academician Programme (LeAp)”  at Monash University, Australia (Selected by Ministry of Education, Govt of India). Presently He is heading Bhaderwah Campus of University of Jammu as its Rector and Professor of Statistics at the University of Jammu, Jammu, J&K. He has successfully headed the INFLIBNET Centre (An Autonomous Inter-University Centre of University Grants Commission, Ministry of Education, Govt of India) Gandhinagar, Gujarat as Director (Vice Chancellor’s Rank) for five years.


With 37 years of vast experience in teaching, research and administration, he has served at various Universities such as Jammu University, Jammu, Dr Y S Parmar University of Horticulture & Forestry, Solan, HP, Panjab University, Chandigarh, Agra University (Agra College) & U P Government etc. and supervised Twenty-Five Ph D & M Phil students, published about 100 research papers in referred and peer-reviewed journals of repute, book chapters and presented in international/national conferences besides 03 Edited Books. His research work has been recognized and covered in a book published by Springer, based at the USA. He has served in various positions at Jammu University like Head of the Department, Dean, Faculty of Mathematical Sciences, Coordinator (DST PURSE Scheme), Director UGC-HRDC, Convener, Departmental Research Committee, Convener Board of Studies in Statistics, OSD (Examinations), Chief Warden and shared the responsibilities and contributed as a Member in all the decision-making statutory bodies of the University of Jammu like University Council, Syndicate, Finance Committee, Planning and Monitoring Board, College Development Council, Academic Council etc. He has vast exposure to working in National Bodies dealing with academic and educational growth of the institutions of higher learning. He has immensely contributed to higher education institutions and their management by serving as Member on the Council of the premier institute “The Indian Statistical Institute” and Governing Bodies of several Autonomous Colleges besides Member of the Planning and Monitoring Board of Universities and Member Syndicate, Member of University Court and Executive Council of Central University of Haryana, Planning and Monitoring Board of the Central University of Gujarat, ICT Committee of NAAC, Academic Council of Consortium of Educational Communication (Inter-University Centre of UGC), Empowered Committee of UGC-CARE (Consortium for Academic and Research Ethics), Implementation Core Committee of NIRF and Framework Development Committee and Team of Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIA), Research Council of NIScPR-CSIR, Academic Planning Board of Chaudhary Devi Lal University Sirsa, Haryana, etc. He has also contributed as Member in the Expert Group on “Technology Use and Integration” for Formulation and drafting Implementation Plan, drafting guidelines for setting up Research & Development Cell in HEIs and framing guidelines for Research Internship with Faculty and Researchers at HEIs constituted by the University Grants Commission for Implementation of National Education Policy-2020, Expert Committee to Look into Various Matters Related to Accreditation NAAC and headed the Expert Committee to Carry out the System and Process Audit of NAAC.  He remained Chairperson of NAAC Peer Team of several Colleges and Universities for their accreditation. 


He has also contributed substantially in the field of distance education by writing Study Material in SLM form for students of various academic programmes of UG and PG Level of Jammu University. He is Life Member of various academic Bodies/Societies and on Reviewer/Editorial Board of the Journals of International reputes. He has also been Secretary, Vice President and Executive Member of Indian Society of Probability and Statistics.


He has widely travelled and visited the U.S.A., Australia, Portugal, Thailand, Taiwan, and Malaysia for academic pursuits and participated in several international programmes/ seminars/conferences as Chairperson of technical sessions, invited speaker and delegate. 
 
He also remained Member of Search Committees constituted for the appointment of Vice-Chancellor of Universities.
